Our Story

Each piece is an exploration of structure, craftsmanship, and identity carefully tailored and meticulously constructed to reflect the individuality of its wearer. Our work is created to honor what exists within, allowing confidence, creativity, and character to take shape beyond the form.

Big Ideas, Real Impact.

I think there is beauty in everything. What ‘normal’ people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it

MARQ QUIES is a Philadelphia-based womenswear brand built around structure, form, and creative expression.

Founded by designer Marquies, the brand explores what happens when traditional clothing is pushed beyond its expected boundaries. MARQ QUIES creates elaborate jackets, coats, lounge jackets, and womenswear that play with proportion, shape, construction, and unexpected materials.

Our work begins with an idea and develops through the hands-on process of cutting, draping, tailoring, deconstructing, and rebuilding. We are interested in garments that feel familiar but become something different once they take shape on the body.

MARQ QUIES doesn't follow one formula. Some pieces are carefully tailored, some are sculptural, and others come from completely unexpected materials or ideas. What connects them is our interest in creating clothing that makes you look twice.

At its core, MARQ QUIES is about giving form to ideas that don't always have a name yet—creating garments that live somewhere between fashion, art, and the unknown.

We make clothing for the curious, the experimental, and those willing to see things differently.

Meet the Founder

Marquies is a Philadelphia-born fashion designer, artist, educator, and creative whose work is rooted in storytelling, structure, nature, and the art of making.

His relationship with fashion began at the age of 12, when a simple desire to have clothing he couldn't afford became an introduction to sewing. Instead of letting that limitation stop him, Marquies began creating his own clothes. What started as a necessity quickly became a fascination with fashion—particularly the design and construction of womenswear, which he found especially expressive and intriguing.

Growing up, Marquies was always drawn to nature and art, finding inspiration in the shapes, textures, movement, and imperfections found in the world around him. His early interest in architecture further shaped the way he approaches clothing, teaching him to think about structure, proportion, form, and how individual elements come together to create something larger.

While attending CHAD (Charter High School for Architecture & Design) in Philadelphia, Marquies studied architecture and design while spending his time after school in the fashion design club, continuing to develop his passion for clothing and construction. He later attended the Community College of Philadelphia, studying Fine Art before continuing his education at Thomas Jefferson University, where he earned his degree in Fashion Design. During his time at Jefferson, Marquies developed a reputation for creating work that combined strong construction with concept-driven storytelling, earning recognition and awards for his designs.

After graduating, Marquies was invited back to Thomas Jefferson University as a Professor in the Fashion Design Department, where he shared his knowledge of sewing, garment construction, and creative development with the next generation of designers. Teaching became another extension of his creative practice, allowing him to help others discover their own voice through fashion.

Eventually, Marquies turned his attention toward building something of his own.

MARQ QUIES was born from that evolution. Named after Marquies himself but intentionally spelled in a new way, MARQ QUIES represents more than a personal name. It creates space for the name to develop its own identity, meaning, and life beyond the individual who created it.
