We found a Philadelphia Flyers blanket at a local thrift store and saw an opportunity to transform an everyday object into something unexpected. The challenge was not only to work sustainably, but to take an existing item and completely rethink its purpose.

I dissected the blanket and reconstructed it into a structured two-piece gown, using my knowledge of garment construction, draping, and structure to transform a familiar household object into an artistic eveningwear piece. What began as a blanket was carefully deconstructed and rebuilt into a garment that can actually be worn.

The two-piece design can be worn together as a complete gown or separately, allowing each piece to exist on its own while still coming together to create a cohesive silhouette.

More than anything, this piece carries a message about reconsidering what we throw away. The Blanket Dress asks us to look at the objects we no longer use and question their potential before deciding they belong in the trash. Sustainability does not always have to begin with new materials—it can begin with reimagining what already exists.

The Blanket Dress is a one-of-one garment and an example of how creativity can turn something ordinary, overlooked, and discarded into something intentional, functional, and beautiful.
